On what was again weekend blessed with glorious weather the Oaks were off up the short trip to Old Coulsdon to play Purley 3s.
We even managed to have 16 players which was quite remarkable after the battering we took last week. Bumping into Craig in the town in the morning and discovering that his ribs might be broken was a bit of a shock!
As expected the Purley 3s were mix of youth and old players, and the comment to my fellow prop don't fancy yours much -who in turn was actually mine - ouch!
The game Kicked off and the Oaks were driven off the ball in the scrum and over Purley went for the first try. We rolled up our sleves and knew the way to win this game was to keep the ball out of the fowards and into the backs who went over to level the scores after some sustained pressure.
Must point out and give thanks to 2 new recruits Gareth & Locky who i think got a taste for senior rugby " He just punched me" - alas that is what happens in big bys rugby was the relpy!.
Again Purley used there pack to drive us up the pitch and over they went a again. This was offset by a stunning tackle and ripping the ball from the player a quick side shuffle and diving off load to Copy in our own 22, then saw Copey run the lenght of the field and and go over.
The second half was off and things were getting quite frusting as posessiion and chances were missed by the Oaks with Purley going over again the heat was on! Eventually super sub kent dance his way through the oppo and went over to level the scores. His footwork was akin to Michael Flattery in his hey day.
Thanks to everyone for making the effort to continue the Oaks unbeaten status for 3 games now. Also speedy recovery to Paul who took a knock tothe head and still having the common sense to put the valubles behind the bar and for the Oaks not reliaisng this for half and hour. dave for driving my car back to the club and Lyndon for taking me back to Reigate where I was needed as waterboy for the 1s who played a blinder and won.
