After an mini mid season break due to weather and numbers the 2’s finally had a game to play. With numbers at 14 and borrowing a player from the opposition we could finally burn off the extra weight some players had gained over the last few weeks. The pitches were looking good to firm the weather glorious and the game was on.

The first half was largely dominated by the huge forwards of the opposition with a period of 20 minutes where they were camped in Reigates 22. Some solid defence managed to keep them at bay with them coming inches from our try line, towards the end of the first half some lovely lines were created by our backs just showing what we could do if we could get out of the dog fight with there forwards. A rare “try” by one of the more senior players of Reigate who was under the posts to what we thought would be the opening score was unfortunately held up by the opposition. Unfortunately Thumper the rabbit was not at his usual TMO position and we could not get confirmation of the try. The first half ended 0-0.

The second half started with Reigate a sleep at the wheel, a huge kick from a penalty ( The penalty count was racking up against the team in blue shades of recent England performances). The resulting line out saw Old Wal’s over the line, again the game ebbed and flowed and Old Wal’s breached the Reigate defence once more. Some lovely running saw new guy Jez go over the line giving the 2s some hope, but tiredness crept into the team and a sin bin( no need to name and shame you know who you are), and the game just edged away from the blues.

Whatever the result this was a thoroughly enjoyable game, and a good warm up to our next league game next week v Racal Decca. Next weeks game has been moved to 1.30 KO – so 11.45 at club for prompt 12pm leave.

Thanks to Old Wal for lending us a player and a speedy recovery to Rich who damaged his shoulder but was still able to light a fag! And Jez for stepping in at the last minute a welcomed addition to the team.
