On a glorious winters day, the Reigate gang made there way up to the old c’s after having not played for a couple of weeks due to the autumn internationals and player availability the league was back in everyone’s minds again.
The return of James B, from New York for yet another final game for the blues and a couple of new faces Dave and Nick saw a much changed team again. Unusally for us we arrived early and proceeded to drink the much needed pre match port before the game to warm our souls up and then carried out an actual warm up and ran through a few drills.
The game kick off and with 2 Reigate players on the sidelines giving coaching and support due to a broken thumb and man flu we were off. Some great forward play saw Reigate bash it up the pitch with some impressive work from Craig, and the pack were inch’s from the try line, with Le Captain popping over the line for first score. This seem to stir the opposition into life and with there fly half booting down into our half and capitalising on some poor tackling Reigate found themselves 3 try’s to 1 down. Which did not really reflect the advantage we had in the forwards and our general play. Reigate rallied round for the last few moments of the half and were rewarded with a try. Not sure who went over I think it was Dave M. The Second half started with much gusto from Reigate and going over the try line twice, but the OC’s kept coming back at us with their attacking Full Back who seemed to be running with ease through us. Reigate grabed the game by the scruff of the neck and a sweeping move saw the backs go over with some great play between Josh And Mark. Another fine move from the backs saw Ed go over with dogged determination and chasing what looked like a lost cause. Rich playing hooker for the first time and picking up the ball from a driving ruck and snipping through their defence and going over the under the sticks with much aplomb. The OC’s were still coming back us and some last ditch tackling by James and Mark saw Reigate through a sticky patch. Even when Mark was sin binned for not binding at the srum which seemed a little harsh, Reigate still managed to hold out for a fine victory and one that will move us further up the league.
Also did anyone notice that a game kicked off at exactly the same time us but we finished a full 20mins after then??? It did feel like the second half went on for a long time???
Quotes of the day:
Lyndon - “The dynamic play from the forwards combined with some great attacking flair from the backs was a joy to watch and almost made me want to get out there and join in, dam this man flu”.
Sua after taking quite a heavy blow to the chin during the game Sua was quite unsure of where he was and how he got there and even if we had one- “where are we bro”
So onwards and upwards for Reigate, text will be coming out for next weeks game and please can you confirm that you can play on the 20th for next league game, which will be at home.
