In what was a weekend where the week’s rainfall meant that many games in the local area were cancelled; Reigate 2XV’s hosted a Racal Decca 1XV at Colley Lane, Reigate kicked off the match and set about their game plan to provide quick clean ball for the backs to penetrate the Decca defensive line. However in typical fashion the Reigate backline lost their concentration and a well worked move from the Decca backline allowed their winger to run in the games first try unopposed after 10 minutes, after a knock on by the full back and then missing the tackle!!!

The score immediately sparked the team into life and they immediately went deep into Decca’s territory hunting for a score, good hands and distribution from the backline putting full back Stuart Stoddart eventually over the line.

Not content with one score, Reigate went hunting for more tries and were rewarded with another try, after some classic rucking from the forward players allowed the Decca line to be eventually crossed by Ian Roberts.

At half time the score was 12-7 in Reigate’s favour. The team was determined not to let their lead slip and ensure that they scored the first try of the second half. However with the middle of the pitch completely encased in mud, the game plan could not come to fruition.

Reigate did manage to score early in the second half when the backs combined well from deep within their own territory, to release substitute winger Gary Bendall to score under the posts.

Reigate spent the remainder of the half in Decca’s territory, although the difficult conditions saved Decca on more than one occasion, a final try was eventually grabbed again by Roberts after some great forward mauling released Roberts who was completely unopposed when crossing the line.

When the final whistle blew, the Reigate players felt completely manicured from the mud bath however more importantly satisfied with a good 24-7 win. Next week Reigate 2XV’s look forward to resuming their league campaign with an away game versus league leaders and local rivals Chipstead. Reigate 1XV will host Lightwater in a league match at Colley Lane.
