On a fine day (even dare I say it glorious at some points). Reigate continued their winning ways. 12 hardy souls made their way east to Sevenoaks to play there 4ths, with Mat on the way we were up to 13. However what we were lend to believe was James (Mr Teflon) last game for the club the previous week was an unjust rumour and he managed to get from New York to Sevenoaks in half and hour. So we were up to 14.
So we were set the pre match team talk in the dressing had fired Reigate up to such an extent that when we left the changing room and made short way to the pitch Rich managed to twist his ankle leaving the building so we were back to 13 – the opposition lent us a couple of players Mike and Aaron so we could get going.
Reigate stormed to an early 3 try lead thanks to great play from the backs the 2 Brian’s and Mike going over. From the touch line Rich was quoted as saying “This is like watching France when they are on a good day Viva La Reigate”. Sevenoaks then capitalised on some poor tackling and errors by Reigate and we were back to 3 try’s piece. As the game ebbed and flowed Reigate took the initiative but kept being pegged back by Sevenoaks strong forwards play. Some heroic tackling from Lyndon keeping there large no 8 quiet help keep Sevenoaks at bay. Rich again from the sidelines was quoted as saying “he had not seen tackling like that since Peter Winterbottom in is hey day”.
With Reigate going into half time with a one point lead a much needed awe inspiring team talk was needed, takers for next week please?. Reigate opened the second half has they started with great attacking and support play combining both the backs and forwards, again Rich on the touch line was quoted as saying “Sometimes it looks like I am watching France and then it looks like watching a brutal All Blacks display of pure rugby.” With 20 minutes to go and Sevenoaks tiring Reigate started to find more spaces to exploit with the Vice Captain Lyndon going over twice and Paul showing shades of Dan carter going over the try line. James B and Stuart combined well with some support play and pop passing that over on the touch line Steve Cope was quoted as saying “ I have not seem an understanding like that on the pitch since Carling and Guscott”. Sevenoaks were not to give up lightly and came back to score the last try of the game.
Special Thanks to James B for coming from New York to play and Craig for doing the shirts(take note everyone has to do them once in a season) and Matt for coming straight from work and the 2 Sevenoaks players. Not sure why they gave us there scrumhalf who was particular good?
